Robert Shetterly, Artist/Activist & Founder of the Americans Who Tell the Truth portrait project.
About the Artist: He says that the maintenance of democracy depends less on voting rights and the separation of powers than on historically honest education, a media that believes in the right and necessity of citizens to hear the truth, and the moral courage of citizens to act for the common good. In this age of the corporatization of nearly everything, the role of local, independent media has never been more important for the survival of democracy as well as the survival of the planet. With portraits and stories Shetterly will speak about the failure of corporate media in the run-up to the Iraq War and how the weight of truth telling shifted to local media.
