Michael Max Knobbe is the Executive Director of BronxNet, the borough’s public access multimedia network. As Executive Director, he has successfully pioneered and guided many initiatives including:

  • The design, construction, and launch of the state-of-the-art BronxNet Media + Technology Studios in the South Bronx with immersive media studios, XR production stages, innovation labs, learning labs and more
  • Hands-on career building experiential learning for middle school, high school and college students with BronxNet alumni achieving success as media leaders across the communications, media and film industry
  • The provision of media workshops and certifications that have given thousands of Bronx residents workforce training, as well as the ability to produce their own television programs and to utilize BronxNet’s services, studios, technology and channels
  • The production of thousands of multimedia programs that serve the public interest including award winning ultra local content that connects the Bronx to the world and builds community through media across six diverse multicultural multi-platform channels
  • Dynamic arts programming where local artists are producing original programming across disciplines, and conducting media arts workshops for youth and the public, including ten artists working at BronxNet through the support of Creatives Rebuild NY
  • Major upgrades to BronxNet’s network operations at Lehman College.
  • Television programs and services that help organizations and community leaders maximize their reach, connect with the public, and contribute to community development

Spotlighting the arts and culture is part of Michael’s commitment to working with artists, performers, and arts organizations.  He has produced programs that have been recognized by the media industry. 

Michael Max is a co-founder of the Alliance for Community Media’s New York State Chapter. He has testified before Congress about the importance of community media and continues to be a leader in the effort to enhance public media and digital inclusion.  Mr. Knobbe serves on the board of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, The Huntington Free Library, and on advisory committees for The NYC League of Women Voters and Hostos Community College.

As an adjunct professor, Mr. Knobbe taught Digital Moviemaking and the History of Cinema at Lehman College. He is a graduate of the Bronx HS of Science and has a Masters in Fine Arts from Lehman College and B.A. in Studio Art and World History from Drew University.  Born and raised in the Bronx, Michael is also a visual artist and an advocate for health and fitness.
