Rest and refresh yourself mentally between visits to the Trade Show! Download this information + timetable here: Thursday Roundtable Discussions 9-30b

  • New Dimensions for Live Video Mixing ♦ Video Mixing (or VJ-ing) does not need to be limited to 3-camera shoots. With new software, innovative and breathtaking visuals can be created in real-time. Forget editing. This is a great complement to audio driven content or radio style interviews. This roundtable will give you hands on experience with VDMX visual mixing software and a path on how to bring this to your organization. With Jason Daniels (executive director, Easton Community Access Television, MA) in Trafalgar Rm.
  • Breaking the Mold: (re) visioning the new Access Center Producer and Fostering New Partnerships in the Film & Media Industry (How to Tap into Film Resources) ♦ Have you or your center considered expanding your partnerships to include working with local Film Offices or the Screen Actors Guild? During this roundtable you will hear from these two offices and will learn more about new philosophies that will have community media centers looking at these agencies as important resources. Some questions you will start thinking about (or have been) are: How do you start thinking differently about the content you are producing and break the stigma? How do you get a younger generation of content producers to look at access centers to think beyond the traditional notion of freedom of speech? Film offices are integral at helping with permitting issues, site locations and much more. You will leave this session thinking more about your role, as a media center, and how to grow the current partnerships with local groups and agencies. With Matt Newton (director, New Hampshire Film and Television Office) in Hunt Club Rm.
  • Bring Your Productions to New Heights with a Quad Copter! ♦ Come check out this round table on the DJI Quad Copter with GoPro Camera. Share ideas on how to incorporate aerial video in your productions. This is a fantastic new tool for video producers and heck… it’s pretty freakin’ cool to fly! With Robert Haigh (Access AV) and JP Fortier (station director, Mt. Blue TV, ME) in Trafalgar Rm.
  • Content Swap – Non Local Video for your TV Channels ♦ At access centers with multiple TV channels broadcasting 24/7, those responsible for programming the channels are constantly on the lookout for a variety of non-commercially produced, quality video that speaks to the concerns and interests of their local audience. This workshop will allow participants to share: their favorite sources of non-local content, techniques for downloading/transcoding and efficient scheduling of episodes and air their pet peeves, wish lists and requests. John will share the process that Access Humboldt uses and his experience in automating series downloads from pegmedia.org, Deutsche Welle USA, Democracy Now, archive.org and youtube. Participants should be prepared to share their answers:
    • what are your requirements for non-local video?
    • what series/shows do you download? what’s you preferred download and transcode method? how much time does it take?
    • what are you pet peeves, wishlists and feature requests?

Bring a hard drive or thumbdrive with favorites from your center (and beyond!) and plenty of empty space to copy from other attendees! Facilitator: John Hauser (special projects manager, Access Humboldt, CA) in Hunt Club Rm.
