Each year, the Alliance for Community Media-Northeast Region asks its members to nominate the producers, staff and colleagues who are deserving of special recognition. There are three special awards, The Brian Wilson Mentor Award, the Chuck Sherwood Leadership Award and the Rika Welsh Community Impact Award.
2016 Winners: ACM Northeast Region is happy to announce the following Special Awards for this year:
- Chuck Sherwood Award – Lisa Byer – We picked Lisa not only because of her great work for her center but for the whole State of Vermont. As quoted from one person who nominated her “Lisa has been the driving force behind the Certificate of Public Good renewals for Comcast and Charter for the entire state of Vermont. She has made enormous professional and personal sacrifices to combat greed that jeopardized the future of access media in Vermont.”
- Brian Wilson Award – Eric Dresser – We picked Eric because he really stood out in the group as someone who cares about his job and family. His nominator indicated that Eric takes people under his wing and helps them succeed both professionally and personally. This was a tough pick as many nominees were deserving of the award.
- Rika Welsh Award – Georgian Lussier – We picked Georgian for her work on her program that empowers women from 40 to 75. She has produced her show “Mid Life Matters” for the past 3 and half years. She has covered various topics on women’s health, employment, addiction, care giving, veterans, and so much more. She has made connections with all her guests and has helped to get their messages out to the community.
These awards will be presented during festivities on October 22 in Portland, Maine. Thanks to everyone who made nominations this year. A lot of good work is being done throughout our region and deserves recognition.
