New Media Connects at Conference

Workshops, keynote speeches, a trade show…. What more could you want?
The Region’s conference was held at the Renaissance Providence Hotel in May. This hotel was formerly a Masonic Lodge in the city.

The conference featured a keynote address by Nolan Bowie. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy and a Senior Fellow of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy. From 1986 to 1998 he was an Associate Professor at Temple University, School of Communication and Theater. His primary policy concerns are issues regarding equity and fairness in the allocation of and access to information (literacy, education, and knowledge) in all formats via digital and analog communication technology.

The conference featured the largest vendor show to date, four tracks of workshops and the sharing of ideas and information that still happens best when people meet face to face. The Conference Committee, led by Doris Ballard, worked hard to meet the needs of the attendees. Special thanks to Chuck Sherwood for putting together the workshop tracks and filling them with knowledgeable presenters. Debra Rogers functioned as the hotel liasion and made sure logistics ran smoothly. Keith Thibault put together the tremendous trade show.

The other members of the Board of Directors who helped run registration and other parts of the conference were: Rob Chapman, Jason Daniels, Terry Duenas, Michael Knobbe, Karen Hayden and Nancy Richard. The Board wishes to extend a special thank you to Peter Pijoan of Wolfeboro NH for his enthusiasm and assistance.
