About Community VR:

Over the past two years, BIG has been developing in-house capacity and expertise in VR, AR and 360 through our project, the Public VR Lab, which was co-founded with our sister station, NCTV, in Northampton, MA.

Public VR has trained the STAT news team at the Boston Globe, were invited to present, demo, and create a customized air pollution VR experience for the United Nations, spoken nationally and globally on VR Storytelling panels, hosted a VR Ecohack- and monthly hackathons, piloted a number of VR, AR, WebVR and 360 public projects with libraries, historians, filmmakers, and with arts, cultural and tech organizations, are leading a national Immigration VR collaborative project and started a VR Academy to educate our community and beyond on these emerging media tools and techniques.

Since they can’t do personal tours for all of you who have requested coming to BIG and learning about our project, they’ve hosted sessions at ACM national and regional conferences, at NATOA, and on-site at PhillyCAM in Philadelphia, and this April, they’ll be at Open Signal in Portland, Oregon presenting at the ACM NW conference and providing a free training to community media folks there.
